The Point national finalist for CBI student production award

Shay Gauthier, Operations Manager of SUNY Brockport’s student run radio station 89.1 The Point, is a national finalist for the 2020 College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) National Student Production Awards Competition. She ranks in the top four nationally in the category of Best Hard News Reporting for her report entitled “Students Protest on Campus.”

This report covered the protest on the campus of SUNY Brockport which followed the firing of Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Cephas Archie last February. The other three finalists for the category are Texas State University (KTSW 89.9) for “Clery Act Misreporting,” University of Wisconsin-Madison (WSUM 91.7-FM) for “Open Wisconsin Protest,” and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (WRST-FM) for “Bald Eagles Return.”

The CBI National Student Production Awards Competition is open to all student run media outlets. 89.1 The Point has a strong history with them, having been finalists 10 times in the past two decades. While typically an awards ceremony is held in person and students given the opportunity to travel, this year it will be held virtually. Winners will be announced October 28 through 30 during the CBI National Student Electronic Media Convention (NSEMC).
