89.1 The Point donates award money to Willow Domestic Violence Center
SUNY Brockport radio station, 89.1 The Point, donated $1,050 received from the George Rich Student Philanthropy Award to The Willow Domestic Violence Center. This was awarded in recognition of senior Operations Manager Shay Gauthier’s (Brockport High School) Fall 2019 project based around gender-based violence.
The award was given to recognize the significant contribution that the project made to the community. It encompassed a series of 12 on air reports, including interviews of both survivors and experts in gender-based violence, and focused on raising awareness for the issue.
This donation continues the relationship that 89.1 The Point has with The Willow Domestic Violence Center, following the station’s Warming Hearts for Willow charity event that was held last fall. That charity event donated over 2,500 items, including clothes and personal care items, to Willow and other shelters.
The Willow Domestic Violence Center is an organization that provides shelter, services, and resources to support survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. They operate a 24/7 confidential crisis hotline, 585-222-SAFE (7233). For information, visit https://www.willowcenterny.org/.
