Brockport Symphony Orchestra presents virtual “Folk Music Around the World”concert
The Brockport Symphony Orchestra will present a virtual “Folk Music Around the World” concert on Sunday, November 8, at 7 p.m. The link to view the concert will be posted on the orchestra’s website (www.brockportsymphony.org) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BrockportSymphony) one hour prior to the time of the concert. Admission is free, and donations for the Brockport Food Shelf and the orchestra will be gratefully accepted online. Directed by Jonathan Allentoff, this virtual concert will feature all new recordings of fall 2020 performances.
The program includes settings of “Simple Gifts” and “Swansea Town” by Aaron Copland and Gustav Holst, “River Songs” by Douglas Wagner, “Korean Folk Rhapsody” by James Curnow, the Japanese folk song “Takeda Lullaby,” Leroy Anderson’s “Blue Tango,” and “German Dance No. 1” by W. A. Mozart. Highlighting Western New York’s folk music heritage, the orchestra will perform Allentoff’s arrangement of the “Rochester Schottische” by William Rulison. Dr. Bill Hullfish will perform new vocal renditions of the songs featured in the orchestral works.
