Needle-work for neighbors, stitched with love

Every year, the members of the First Congregational Church of Spencerport UCC “Needles Mission Club” produce 50 to 60 warm, colorful blankets for people in the community.  The club started in 2009 and currently has eight members. Twice a year, the finished blankets are placed on the chancel in front of the altar of the church and blessed before they are sent out into the community. The recipients of these cozy knitted and crocheted four-foot by five-foot lap blankets are dialysis and chemotherapy patients at nearby hospitals and clinics, or church members and their relatives who may be dealing with serious illness. A tag is pinned to each blanket that says, “First CC, UCC, Needles Mission Club,” which lets the person who receives it know where it came from, and that it was created with love.

The Needles Mission Club meets virtually on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m.
