Monroe County 4-H Mighty Monday to highlight Alpaca Farming & Fiber Arts

In collaboration with Seneca County 4-H program, Monroe County 4-H is offering area youth the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fiber arts, and to meet a local alpaca farmer. In a program on Monday, March 8, Robin Houseworth, Seneca County 4-H Educator and Alpaca Farmer with Cabin View Alpacas, will share her knowledge about and experience with alpacas, and what is involved in the daily life of an Alpaca Farmer.

Youth will gain hands-on experience as they begin to create two types of weaving projects using alpaca fibers. Youth will begin their projects during the workshop and finish on their own time. For this workshop, fiber art kits will be available at no cost to youth participating. These kits will contain materials needed for the weaving creations and sample of alpaca fleece. In addition to a fiber arts kit, participants will need tape and scissors on hand.

Registration for the program is required and kit numbers are limited. Youth ages 5 to 18 are welcome, youth ages 5 to 7 should participate with caregiver support. The program will be delivered via Zoom. Register by Friday, March 5, at https://pub.cce.cornell.edu/event_registration/main/events_landing.cfm?event=4H_alpacas_226. Registered youth and families may pick up the fiber arts kits at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County Office, 2449 St. Paul Boulevard, Rochester, during the week prior to the event.
