St. George’s Episcopal Church in Hilton has celebrated the Blessing of Animals for many years.
According to Reverend Greg Kremer, “The Episcopal Church has long taken a pro-animal stance, believing that animals are gifts from God, and that people are responsible for being good stewards of the earth and all of its inhabitants.” In keeping with these beliefs, many Episcopal churches host an Annual Blessing of the Animals Service, which gives the community the opportunity to bring their pets and animals to church to receive special blessings.
Typically, Episcopalians celebrate the Blessing of the Animals on the Sunday closest to the Feast of St. Francis, which falls each year on October 4th. St. Francis of Assisi was well known for his love of animals. During the service for the Blessing of the Animals, people remember and emulate St. Francis’ example of love for animals and appreciation of God’s creations.
St. George’s Blessing of Animals Service is open to the public and is taking place this Sunday, October 3rd at Noon, on the grounds of St. George’s Episcopal Church, 635 Wilder Road, Hilton, (across from Kelly’s Farm Market and Bakery).
All animals are welcome, big and small. “In the past we have had animals of all kinds including dogs and cats, reptiles, birds, goats and an occasional horse.” Reverend Kremer said.
All are welcome, it is requested that animals be well attended.
RSVP is not necessary.
