HCR Cares Receives Grant Funding
HCR Cares has received grant funding for a program to increase the home care workforce by addressing transportation barriers for those interested in home care employment.
The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Inc. has awarded $200,000 in grant funding for HCR Cares’ Roadway to Independence II program. Through this program, HCR Cares will provide in- person training to prepare potential employees for the driver’s permit test.
Training will include helping to eliminate obstacles to taking the permit test or getting a driver’s license, such as a lack of or limited access to a computer, and overcoming learning difficulties or language barriers. Participants will be identified through a screening process to determine potential employees who are ineligible because they do not have a driver’s license. The grant funding will also be used to pay for the cost of a driver’s permit and Department of Motor Vehicles fees.
“Transportation is one of the major barriers to finding employment in the home care workforce,” said Louise Woerner, HCR Cares Board President. “We are grateful that The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation is providing this support to enable us to address this issue by helping potential workers get their driver’s license.”
Woerner added that HCR Cares has selected Daisy Rivera Algarin to serve as the project director of the Roadway to Independence II program. Algarin will work with many project collaborators with a similar interest in increasing the health care workforce, including the Monroe County Clerk’s Office.
