Free Hunter Education Courses

At the Conservation Club of Brockport
The Conservation Club of Brockport is offering free Hunter Education and Bowhunter Education courses this year. The Hunter Education course is mandatory for anyone seeking a NYS Small/Large Game license. The Bowhunter Education course is required (in addition to Hunter Ed) for hunters who want use a bow and arrow or crossbow to hunt deer or bear. Students successfully completing these courses will have a Certificate of Qualification entered into the New York State Decals system.
The Hunter Ed (gun) course is being taught on April 18, and student registration is currently open at http://www.dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting/hunter-education. The Bowhunter Education course will be offered on August 15, with registration opening closer to the course date. The club will also offer a fall Hunter Education course in late August. These in-person classes are offered free of charge. Online courses also available for a fee through the DEC.
Hard copy student manuals are available in the Conservation Club lobby, 291 Ladue Road, Brockport, during open trap (Mondays from 5 to 8 p.m.), from the Sweden Town Offices, or from Seymour Library, 161 East Avenue, Brockport. A copy can also be downloaded from the DEC website, with download instructions provided during the registration process. Students should allow adequate time to prepare the mandatory homework.
Bowhunters interested in improving or testing their archery skills should consider participating in planned Flying Arrow 3D archery shoots at the club. The next shoot is scheduled for August 16, the same weekend as the Bowhunter class. Details will be available on the Conservation Club of Brockport website.
The club no longer offers a Beginners Trap Shooting class, but beginning shooters may receive instruction at Monday night open trap sessions from 5 to 8 p.m. For details about trap, contact mgcyrccob@gmail.com.
