Rochester By Water

Corn Hill Navigation Announces New Name
After more than three decades of connecting people to Rochester’s waterways, Corn Hill Navigation recently unveiled a new name: Rochester By Water.
The name change reflects the organization’s enduring mission and the area it serves. Rochester By Water highlights the powerful role the Genesee River and Erie Canal have played in shaping Rochester’s history, economy, and community—and the organization’s commitment to presenting the opportunity for people to experience those stories firsthand.
“For more than 30 years, our boats have offered a unique perspective on Rochester—one that can only be seen from the water,” said Patrick Russell-Walsh, Executive Director, “Rochester By Water clearly and confidently expresses who we are, where we operate, and how we invite people to connect with this community.”
A New Name, the Same Mission
While the organization’s name and visual identity are evolving, its mission and vision remain unchanged. Rochester By Water will continue to operate as a nonprofit organization dedicated to:
- Connecting people of all ages to Rochester’s waterways through cruises, education, and hands-on experiences
- Interpreting the history of the Erie Canal and Genesee River
- Inspiring environmental awareness and stewardship
- Creating shared experiences that build pride and a sense of place
The organization’s two vessels, Sam Patch on the Erie Canal and Riverie on the Genesee River, remain at the heart of its programming.
Looking Ahead
The name reveal marks the first phase of a broader rollout planned for 2026. Upcoming milestones include a ribbon-cutting celebration for new signage in May.
“Rochester By Water positions us for the future while honoring everything that has brought us here,” added Russell-Walsh. “It gives us room to grow while staying rooted in the waterways that define our work.”
