WNY PRISM to Survey Drew’s Nature Center
Bergen Seeking Grants
The Town of Bergen and WNY PRISM will partner once again to combat invasive species at Drew’s Nature Center. A WNY PRISM crew will spend two days in July surveying along trails, rights of way, and waterway shorelines (and off-trail as time permits). The Town of Bergen will provide a crew member for field support. WNY PRISM will produce a report based on the survey findings to provide species prioritization and best management practices.
The Town of Bergen is actively seeking grant opportunities to better manage the habitat and public facilities at Drew’s Nature Center. Located on West Sweden Road, Drew’s Nature Center consists of two parcels of land totaling approximately 45 acres, featuring forest and two narrow ponds with walking trails. Access to the Center is via an abandoned railroad bed, also owned by the Town of Bergen. The facility provides community members with many opportunities for nature interactions while walking or cross-country skiing on the trails, fishing or canoeing in the ponds, and observing wildlife in its natural habitat.
