Greece Community Members making a difference by volunteering their time.

Volunteer Greece – The Greece Ecumenical Clothing Closet, (L-R), Mary Agati, Judy Ertel, Lori Gibbs & Linda Malta volunteer at the Greece Ecumenical Clothing Closet, 500 Maiden Ln., Greece. They enjoy helping and meeting the people in their community who need their services. The Clothing Closet is open Monday through Saturday 9-11am, providing gently-worn, clean clothing for residents of all ages and sizes. Everything is free. Proof of residency is required. One bag to fill with necessary items is given, once a month.

Volunteer Greece – Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf volunteers include (l to r) Kate LaBarca, Polly McCubbin, Ann Walker, Marion Renfer, Barb Gardner, Eileen Webber, Mike Bansbach, Joe LaBarca and Mike Zack. A love of helping people in their community bonds this group. These volunteers find their jobs rewarding. They agree that it keeps them busy for the three hours, and they leave feeling good about what they have done. Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf is looking for volunteers to work at the Food Shelf and also for delivery drivers.

Volunteer Greece – Greece Kiwanis – Within this group picture are long time Club members, Bill Joyce, a 50 year member. Kiwanis tradition was always for the branch manager of the Marine Midland Bank to be a member of the Kiwanis, so that was why Bill originally joined the group. He says he has always enjoyed participating in all the Kiwanis events.
Ron Arndt is a 40 year member. His Kiwanis experience developed due to an interested in community activities, he also built a lot of friendships through the group.
Ray Sunday is a 41 year member. Ray says a friend encouraged him to join and he has developed great friendships and memories as a Kiwanis member.
The Greece Kiwanis works as a team on projects, and they work well together. All money raised through projects goes back into the community. Photo by Karen Fien

Volunteer Greece – Greece Rotarians worked with Senator Joe Robach at his recent Electronic Recycling event at Ecopark in Rochester. A constant stream of old computers, printers, microwave ovens, and other electronics kept everyone busy. Volunteer Greece – Journey Home is one of several homes for the dying in the Rochester and surrounding area. They are not funded by third party insurance or agencies. They are a not for profit, privately incorporated 501(c)(3) funded through donations, memorials, United Way Donor option (2212) and fundraisers.

Their reasons for volunteering at Journey Home include, “Time to give back to the community after raising a family,” “Sister was a resident and wanted to give back,” “Family can be family again and not just caregivers,” “Provide care for residents as well as their families,” “Have met the nicest people at the hardest time of their lives,” “Love the people they work with and the residents,” “It is a center point, puts things in perspective,” and “Was a nurse and felt it was something that was perfect fit when retired.”

Volunteer Greece – Greece Historical Society- (L-R) Bill Sauers,  Wallie Rust, Alan Mueller and Arnie Amering standing, Marie Poinan seated on the left and Lee Strauss seated on the right in the office at the Greece Historical Society Museum. These volunteers enjoy giving back to their community. They say it’s fun doing what you love doing when you are retired. They all love history and also educating children who come to visit.
