9 Year Old Ethan Clark Birthday Parade with Greece Police Department Participation

Greece Police Partake in Birthday Parades During Pandemic

It is becoming a familiar sight in many towns, especially in Greece, birthday parties are being replaced by birthday parades. You might recognize this new trend of celebrating a special occasion when you see streets lined with cars, signs, sirens and music, a celebration of someone during this challenging time of social isolation.

In Greece this has become even more memorable with the presence of the Greece Police Department. Sgt. Jared Rene of the Community Services Unit of Greece Police has been getting frequent calls for the Greece Police to participate in celebratory parades for residents in Greece who under normal circumstances would be likely having a party with their friends and family. “We have been getting requests to participate in parades for everything ranging from birthdays, anniversaries and even a “promposal,” Sgt. Rene said.

According to Sgt. Rene most of the requests have been for birthday parades. The parade is staged in advance and there are usually signs made by the friends and family, music and often a loudspeaker. “It really helps brighten someone’s special day and we like to help add to that when we can,” Rene said.

Pictures of the events can be found on the Greece Police Facebook page.
