•Archival Storage Show & Tell by Kate Jacus, Saturday, August 1, 10:00AM (Weather Permitting) Back yard of the Greece Museum, 595 Long Pond Rd. Get a close up look at various storage options for your family heirlooms, from photographs to newspaper clippings, books to textiles. We’ll talk a little about the science behind “archival-quality” and then show you various boxes, binders, and enclosures and how to safely pack objects. We’ll have plenty of time for questions so you’ll leave with storage recommendations for your own collection. This program will be outside in the shade of our back yard. Please bring your own lawn chair and a mask. Social distancing will be maintained and hand sanitizer and plastic gloves will be available if you wish to touch any of the storage options.

•Programs Available On-Line – Check out videos of some of our previous programs, including last month’s Zoom presentation on Museum Quality Storage of Family Heirlooms and Photos. Go to greecehistoricalsociety.org and click on PROGRAM ARCHIVES. Also many of our stories from previous Corinthian newsletters are available on our webpage at greecehistoricalsociety.org/looking-back/

•Your Story–Our History Tell us “your story” of how you are coping with the current coronavirus situation or tell us how your organization is engaging with the community. As your local historical society, it is our responsibility to record and preserve the history of our Town. If you send us your story, an account of life in Greece (and Charlotte) during this unusual time it can then be recorded and preserved in our permanent collection, published in a book, and shared with our libraries and the New York State Historian’s Office. We can only do this if you tell us your story. The stories you tell your friends or share on social media will be impossible to retrieve decades from now, but your written word and/or photographs can be cataloged and retrieved for future generations. Please help us preserve our history of this current crisis. Email us “your story” and photographs to greecehistoricalsociety@yahoo.com or mail to Greece Historical Society, PO Box 16249, Greece, NY 14616.

•Greece Museum to Re-Open August 2 (We Hope!)  With Phase Four beginning, museums are allowed to be open with certain restrictions. We need time to prepare and make decisions on the protocols we will be following, and prepare plans. With that in mind our tentative plan is to re-open the museum to the public on Sunday, August 2. There will be a limited number of guests at any one time and of course patrons will need to wear masks and we will have a “No Touch” policy. If you plan to visit us you many need to ring the door bell and wait for a docent to let you in. Please watch our Facebook page and website for updates or call us for more information.
