Gary Lewis and the Playboys Headline 4th of July Celebration in Greece
Gary Lewis and his band The Playboys have been making music and touring around the country for over 50 years. The Town of Greece brings them to the Greece Town Campus Pavilion, 3 Vince Tofany Blvd., on Sunday evening, for a free show, as music headliner for the Annual 4th of July Celebration.
“I love playing Greece. The last time I performed in the Rochester area was in 1997 at the Eastman Theatre. It has been 24 years since I played my hometown,” Lewis said. Gary and his wife Donna have lived in suburban Rochester for over 20 years.
Current Playboys band members are, Bobby Bond, drums; Mike Gladstone, guitar; Willy O’Riley, keyboards and Dominic Trinchini, bass. “All the musicians in the band are local guys,” Lewis said.
With 8 gold singles, 12 Top 40 singles and 4 gold albums, Gary Lewis and the Playboys have an impressive play list. What will you hear at the concert on Sunday evening? Lewis said this, “We play every hit we ever had, original tunes and songs by people who have inspired me.” Lewis went on to say he is inspired by Del Shannon, Country/Rock band Clover, James Brown and Van Morrison.
Gary Lewis and the Playboys had a string of their own hits starting in 1965 with, This Diamond Ring, Count Me In, She’s Just My Style, and Everybody Loves A Clown, all under the Producer/Arranger team of Snuff Garrett and Leon Russell. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. There’s excellent music out there, and it’s great to be back with live audiences again,” Lewis said.
