The Ridge Road Fire District Awarded International Accreditation Status for Fourth Cycle
The Ridge Road Fire District, Greece, NY, has received Accredited Agency status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) for meeting the criteria established through the CFAI’s voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program. The Ridge Road Fire District is only one of approximately 250 fire departments in the world to achieve Internationally Accredited Agency status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc. (CPSE). This is the district’s fourth time achieving accreditation status. The district first achieved Accreditation status in 2004, becoming the first agency in New York State. Currently, the district is one of only three departments in New York State to have achieved accreditation status.
CFAI is dedicated to assisting the fire and emergency service agencies throughout the world in achieving excellence through self-assessment and accreditation in order to provide continuous quality improvement and the enhancement of service delivery to their communities. The CFAI process is voluntary and provides an agency with an improvement model to assess their service delivery and performance internally and then works with a team of peers from other agencies to evaluate their completed self-assessment.
Commissioner Eric Stoerger, Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Ridge Road Fire District stated that the agency’s achievement of Accredited Agency status “demonstrates the commitment of our agency to provide the highest quality of service to our community.”
Commissioner Stoerger added, “We have also been able to use the Commission on Fire Accreditation International’s process as a proactive mechanism to plan for the future of this agency and locate areas where we can improve on the quality of the services we provide.”
Chief Steve Johnson, Chief of the Ridge Road Fire District stated, “Being awarded accreditation status is the culmination of 5 years of hard work and reflects the district’s commitment to continuous improvement as well as assuring our community that we are providing the best and safest response to all emergencies.” The Chief added, “Our Community Outreach Programs were specifically cited as a best practice and received strong praise from the CFAI Peer Team Assessors.”
The Ridge Road Fire District is an Internationally Accredited, Insurance Service (ISO) Class 2 agency that protects approximately 16 square miles in the southern portion of the Town of Greece, NY. The district responds to more than 6,000 calls a year providing fire, rescue, emergency medical, and hazardous material responses. In addition to responding to emergencies, the district provides community outreach and public education programs including CPR, fire prevention, and child passenger safety programs.
