Greece Historical Society program

The Greece Historical Society, in corporation with the Greece Public Library, is holding a presentation by Peter Wisbey on “The Early Years of Genesee Country Village & Museum.” It will be held Tuesday, May 9, 7 p.m., at the library, 2 Vince Tofany Boulevard, Greece.

With 67 historic structures, Genesee Country Village & Museum, located in Mumford, is the largest living history museum in New York State and the third largest in the United States. Peter Wisbey will present a history of the museum as it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026. Wisbey will especially highlight the single building from the Town of Greece that is now on the museum grounds.

Peter Wisbey is the Wehrheim Curator of Collections at Genesee Country Village & Museum – a position he has held for over 16 years. He was also the Executive Director of the Seward House Museum in Auburn. A native of Horseheads, New York, he graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in history and has two master’s degrees – one in History Museum Studies from SUNY Oneonta/the Cooperstown Graduate Program and one in American Material Culture from the University of Delaware/the Winterthur Program.
