Providing help to people experiencing food insecurity is the primary mission of the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf (GEFSCC), but food insecurity is a symptom of other, sometimes multiple, life challenges. Our volunteers naturally like to help others, so they were excited to learn of a new initiative to help connect people with the services they need.
Together Now, a task force of the United Way, created a computer and smart phone application, called My Wayfinder, allowing a user to answer a series of questions and get a customized list of agencies to provide assistance. To make it as easy as possible, the user can send a request for services to the agency directly through the app. The agencies involved with the user can communicate with each other through the app to better coordinate services.
GEFSCC was one of the very first agencies and the first food pantry in Monroe County to receive training in how to use the app. We are included in the app as a service provider and act as a “front door” agency – one that has initial contact with people needing services. MyWayFinder is available to anyone in the community who is looking for help.
