The North Greece Fire Department (NGFD), is planning a Memorial Project, to be located on the grounds of Station 1, located at 645 North Greece Road, honoring the dedication and sacrifice of first responders. The memorial will include various elements identifying the history of the department and fallen heroes, including symbolic items representing courage and service, in addition to honoring those lost during 9/11. It will provide a contemplative space for reflection, as well as a place for the Fire Department community to host events.
“The Memorial Project has been discussed by the board over the last ten years. We felt this year is the perfect time to break ground for the memorial since the NGFD is celebrating 100 years of service to the community. Our hope is that the memorial will provide a place for the community to gather, a place to reflect and honor those that we have lost in service, a place to promote volunteerism and a place to host community events such as the Annual Open House and Fire Prevention events,” said Al Camp, a 16 year NGFD EMT volunteer and Past President of the NGFD Fire Department.
The NGFD is encouraging community residents to join in and support the Memorial Project by purchasing a personalized brick for the pathway that will lead up to the memorial. NGFD has joined with That’s My Brick, a company that provides truly unique personalized bricks. Funds from the brick donations will allow for the construction of the pathway, lighting, and landscaping leading to the memorial.
A late Mid-May 2024 groundbreaking is planned.
