Rochester Counseling Group prioritizes health, wellness, and community

As a proud, family-owned and operated local business, Rochester Counseling Group is committed to delivering exceptional, compassionate care with a thoughtful touch. Since its opening in 2022, RCG has served well over 600 clients who may not have otherwise found treatment. “Our mission goes beyond just improving the mental health of our clients — we also deeply value the wellbeing of the dedicated therapists who provide that care,” said owners Peggy and Matthew Teal. “We believe that a supported and balanced provider delivers the best experience, and that philosophy is at the heart of everything we do.”
During the first days of the pandemic Matt, a therapist himself, was seeing the toll this crisis was taking on our community and its therapists. “So many friends and family were reaching out asking if we knew of any mental health providers who were taking clients. Having the courage to send that first email or voicemail is often the hardest part of therapy. To hear stories of someone taking the leap and then having to wait for an email back that never came or to be told this person does not have space is heartbreaking. It is such an intimidating process and most people are not even sure about what to look for in a therapist.”
That is why RCG makes a point of updating their website every week with the latest availability and information, helping clients connect quickly and confidently with the care they need. They have a dedicated Intake Specialist, with over 20 years of experience in mental health, who will help each person find the right fit and answer any questions. Their commitment to accessibility also extends to affordability — RCG accepts most local major insurance plans, making quality care within reach for more families in our community. RCG has therapists who treat all ages. Some of their providers specialize in seeing children (as young as three years old) and young adults, while other therapists provide addictions work, as well as stress, anxiety, and depression management.
Peggy said, “Each therapist that is on our team is highly qualified and independently licensed to treat clients in the state of NY. This means that your therapist, at a minimum, has: six years of education in their field followed by at least two years of post-graduate experience and study.”
With a foundation built on trust, compassion, and communication, their business continues to improve — not just as a provider, but as a neighbor you can count on.
RCG does not currently offer psychiatric services, couples counseling, or prescribe medication. However, they coordinate with several specific, vetted providers who do and can offer referrals to them. There may be times where all providers may be full. When this occurs, RCG will continue to offer referral options to other area providers they trust to help the Greece community.
