GCC Celebrates Success of SUNY Reconnect Program

Genesee Community College is celebrating the success of the SUNY Reconnect initiative, which has helped 113 students begin or continue their college education this semester, with a total of $164,913 in Reconnect funding. This transformative program, launched by the State University of New York (SUNY), supports adult learners who are pursuing their first degree or returning to complete one by providing the financial and academic resources needed to help them reach their goals.

GCC’s Cybersecurity, Systems and Networking AAS and Health Studies AS programs have the highest enrollment among Reconnect participants, reflecting both regional workforce needs and the college’s commitment to career-focused education.

“Education changes lives, and SUNY Reconnect is proof of that,” said Dr. Craig Lamb, president of Genesee Community College. “Many of these students paused their education to take care of families, serve their communities, or work through life’s challenges. SUNY Reconnect offers them not just financial support but a pathway back to opportunity, confidence, and success.”

SUNY Reconnect gives New York State residents aged 25 to 55 with no previous college degree the opportunity to earn an associate degree at any SUNY community college for free in eligible programs. Through dedicated advising, flexible course options, and strong community partnerships, GCC continues to provide a welcoming environment for adult learners who are ready to complete their degrees and advance their careers.
