Clarkson teen is Junior Iditarod winner for 2013
Noah Pereira of Clarkson, a student at Brockport High School, became the 2013 Jr. Iditarod Champion on February 24. He is the first out-of-state competitor to win the race and is one of only six rookies to ever place first.
Held in Wasilla, Alaska, the 150 mile course is run over two days. Noah was the “musher” for his sled pulled by 10 dogs. Competitors are between the ages of 14 and 17. He won a $5,000 scholarship and a new sled.
Noah and his father, Lou, have been traveling to Alaska for the past three years to be trained by Iditarod Champion Mitch Seavey and his family. They have created a business, Avalanche Racing Kennel, and acquired their own dog team in Brockport and will continue to train their dogs and give dog sled rides.
