Hilton CSD accepting applications for Universal Pre-Kindergarten

Hilton Central School District parents interested in having their four-year-old attend the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program in the fall need to apply no later than 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. Children must be four years old by December 1, 2013 and a resident of the Hilton School District to be enrolled in the program. Parents/guardians are required to provide transportation to and from the program.

UPK begins Thursday, September 5, follows the school district’s calendar, and adheres to the Board of Education student attendance policy. Therefore, attendance is not optional for UPK. Sessions are held at the Village Elementary and Quest Elementary Schools. The two morning sessions are from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and the two afternoon sessions are from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with one other morning session at Quest. Up to 18 students will be accepted into each session and it will be staffed by one certified teacher and a teacher assistant.

If more than 98 applications are received, a lottery will be held on Monday, April 15 at 9:30 a.m. in the West Avenue Building’s Board Room. Those whose names are drawn are contacted. Once all 98 slots have been filled, families of children who remain on the waiting list will be notified if an opening becomes available.

Information about the UPK Program can be found on the district website at http://www.hilton.k12.ny.us/info/pre-kindergarten.htm. Applications are mailed to homes based on census information. Parents with a child who will be four years old by December 1, 2013 who did not receive an application can call or email Dawn Blodgett at 392-1000, ext. 7031, dblodgett@hilton.k12.ny.us.
