Senior Vanessa Sell (Brockport HS) scored five goals in the second half and seven overall in her final game of the season, but Roberts Wesleyan fell to visiting Buffalo State 21-14 in women’s lacrosse.
Sell, heading to Puerto Rico for a student teaching assignment for the rest of the season, scored two goals during a Redhawks spurt of four consecutive tallies to close a six goal deficit to 13-11 halfway through the second half, but Buffalo State ended the rally with five straight of their own.
The Redhawks opened the game with a 3-1 lead on goals by Loren Dunn with an assist from Billie Jo Marr, an unassisted goal from Lauren Mueller (Spencerport) and a second Dunn tally from Ali Fox over the first 6:06 of the contest.
The Bengals scored five straight to open a 9-4 lead before a Sell goal at the end of the first half on a spin move made it 9-5 at halftime.
Dunn finished with three goals, Allison Kendall had two goals with a team-high five ground balls and Marr also had a multi-point game with one goal and one assist.
The Redhawks have two home games remaining in March with Wells College in on March 28 and Grand Valley State visiting on March 30.
