Culvert replacements resume in area counties

The New York State Department of Transportation plans to resume work in April on a contract to replace culverts at multiple locations including Route 98 in the town of Gaines, Orleans County; two on Route 237 over tributaries to Black Creek in the town of Byron, Genesee County; and one on Route 39 over a tributary to Wiscoy Creek in the town of Eagle, Wyoming County.

Beginning in early April work will begin on the Route 98 location in Gaines. The culvert is located south of Route 104. The road will be closed for approximately two months. A posted detour will direct motorists to utilize Route 279 and Route 104.

After Memorial Day, work will begin on the Route 39 site in Eagle. The culvert is located just west of Flynn Road. The road will be closed for approximately three months. A posted detour will direct motorists to utilize Route 98 to Route 78 to Route 19.

Beginning in mid-summer, work will begin on the Route 237 culverts in Byron. Both culverts are located between Cook Road and North Byron Road. The road will be closed through the end of October. A posted detour will direct motorists to utilize North Byron Road to Route 98 to Route 31A. A local detour for passenger cars will be posted utilizing Cook Road and Searls Road to North Byron Road.

An electronic message board will be placed near each site approximately one week in advance. The schedule is approximate and will be dependent on favorable weather and other general progress, according to a NYSDOT press release.
