Hilton bowling team sets national record with 1198 game
The Hilton High School Girls Bowling Team rolled a record-setting 1198 scratch game in the Monroe County High School Bowling League on January 14 at Clover Lanes. The U.S. High School Bowling Foundation has recognized the score as a national record – the top game ever rolled by a girls team in high school competition. In addition, the 1198 game is a New York State record for any girls sanctioned competition – high school, league or tournament.
The team went on to claim the Section V girls title and represented the area at the New York State High School Championships in Syracuse on March 2. The Cadets made a strong run, setting a tournament record with a 3,214 total for their final three games, but finished second to Middle Country of Section XI, 6053 pins to 5,967.
Anai Flanagan led Hilton a 1,396 total, third among all girls, finishing with games of 235-238-277. Also averaging above 200 at States were Steph Urbonas, who totaled 1,236, and Hannah Petroske, who added 1,234.
