The Holley Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society welcomed 41 new inductees.Forty-one Holley Middle School students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) during a ceremony in the Holley High School auditorium on March 28. Students are eligible for induction if they have cumulative average of 90 percent or higher. Each year, the Faculty Council selects inductees from that group based on five National Junior Honor Society qualities: character, citizenship, leadership, scholarship and service.
After entering the auditorium during the candle ceremony, each current NJHS member went into the audience to tap the new inductees and bring them onstage for the induction ceremony. Students currently serving as NJHS officers assisted faculty adviser Kelly Evans-Marzano during the ceremony, including: Amber Becker, president; Jared Scherer, vice president; Jessica Mandigo, secretary; and Mikayla Hargreaves, treasurer.
Holley Middle School/High School Principal Susan Cory presented the new inductees with certificates and congratulated them individually on their accomplishment. Francis Gaylord, Holley transportation director and Orleans County deputy fire coordinator, was the featured speaker for the event. Gaylord urged the students to continue to work hard in school to achieve high grades. He also told them to look for opportunities to serve their communities, pointing out that he has developed many lifelong friendships due to his association with the fire service.

•Skellen, William E. “Will,” age 84, died April 16, 2013 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born in Kendall Mills, the son of Ernest and Ada Skellen and has been a lifetime resident of the area. He was employed at Eastman Kodak for over 30 years before retiring and also owned and operated his own farm, raising beef cattle. Bridge work plans

It will be out! That’s the call by Spencerport Mayor Joyce Lobene who anticipates the removal of the CSX railroad bridge on Route 259 April 15-20. During more than four years of lobbying efforts the mayor has advocated for removal of the span which limits travel access for large trucks and has deteriorated to the point of being a safety hazard and an eyesore. Steve Phillips, Project Manager and Tom Cunningham, Asst. Prop. Eng. from CP Ward Inc. held a meeting arranged by Village of Spencerport Mayor Joyce Lobene at the Spencerport Fire District Station 1 on Lyell Avenue on Wednesday, April 10 to describe the activities that will be taking place starting April 15 to remove the CSX bridges on Union Street, Washington Street, and Manitou Road. The meeting was attended by many village and town representatives and Spencerport Fire District and Ogden Police officers.
Starting Monday, April 15 at 6 a.m., the CSX bridge on Union Street in the Village of Spencerport will be closed to traffic. Lyell Avenue will be open to traffic. The first stage will be the removal of trees on the abutments and asbestos from the bridge. A tent will be used to protect from the asbestos. The removal of lead paint will follow. On Wednesday, a crane will remove the center stage of the bridge followed by the supporting columns on each side. Clean up will be on Friday, April 19, following which Route 259 is expected to be reopened at the bridge area.
The next stage will be the removal of the Washington Street CSX RR bridge in Adams Basin. This will be a quick removal that could start on Friday, April 19 and work through the weekend, but it is currently planned to start Monday, April 22.
The Manitou Road CSX RR bridge is awaiting a variance. It will be cut into strips and it is currently planned that it will be removed the week of April 29.
