Village of Brockport to participate in Canal Clean Sweep April 21

In recognition of Earth Day 2013 and in preparation for the upcoming 189th consecutive navigation season on the New York State Canal System, the New York State Canal Corporation is partnering with Parks & Trails New York, and the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) to sponsor the Eighth Annual Canal Clean Sweep during the weekend of April 19-21, 2013.

As part of this multi-community celebration, the Village of Brockport will host a beautification event to pick up litter and brush along the canal. Volunteers are to meet at the Welcome Center at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 21. For information about the cleanup events in the Village of Brockport, contact Mayor Castaneda at 637-5300 extension 16.

The Canal Clean Sweep highlights the growing significance of the Canal System and the Canalway Trail System as a recreational and tourism destination across the state and here in Brockport by encouraging communities, not-for-profit organizations and volunteers to engage in cleanup and beautification activities along the Canal System and the Canalway Trail.
