Two Spencerport seniors attend Girls State
Two members of the Class of 2014 from Spencerport High School were among 350 other seniors from New York State who attended the Empire Girls State sessions held at the College at Brockport campus.
Girls State is a week long educational program in American government and is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The citizens elect officials and pass legislation in a mythical 51st state. A highlight this year was a visit by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
Danielle Montecalvo was sponsored by the Ferris Goodridge Auxiliary Unit #330. Some of her activities include: soccer, lacrosse, concert and jazz bands, wind ensemble, Ranger Robotics Team, Model UN, Student Council, French and National Honor Societies and Principal’s advisory committee. Community activities include: Pep Band, Toys for Tots, Special Olympics and MCSMA Solo Festival. She has received the Student of the Month Award, U of R Eastman School of Music Award, and was recognized by the Greece Youth Hall of Fame. Danielle’s parents are Mike and Claudia Montecalvo.
Brianna Antinoro, the daughter of Tom and Katie Antinoro, was sponsored by the Harsch Crisp Seaman Auxiliary Unit #379 in Brockport. School activities include: Model UN, wind ensemble, National Honor Society, Service Club and varsity soccer. Brianna helps her community with the town fall cleanup, Relay for Life and Special Olympics. She participates in travel and premier soccer and has received both the Sportsmanship and MVP soccer awards.
