Chili and Gates receive grants
The towns of Chili and Gates received notification of a $90,765 grant award from the New York State Archives Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF). Chili Town Clerk Virginia Ignatowski, in cooperation with the Town of Gates, requested this funding to implement a shared services document conversion and access project. “The towns currently share an assessor through an intermunicipal agreement,” Ignatowski stated. “This resulted in cost savings and service benefits, but records access has been cumbersome because the assessor splits her time between the two towns. Digitization of the records will allow the assessor remote access to records at any time or location. This will also improve efficiency in the office by reducing the tedious and time-consuming paper searches.”
It is anticipated that the project will be completed by late spring 2014.
