Polls open Tuesday, Dec. 10 for fire district elections

Fire districts across the state will hold elections Tuesday, December 10. Poll hours vary according to district, but you must be a registered voter in order to vote.

A historic election will be held in the Hamlin Morton Walker Fire District.

The district was created early in 2013 with the consolidation of the formerly separate districts. The first five commissioners were appointed on March 4, 2013 and their terms expire December 31, 2013.  This will be the first election in the district.

Eight people are running for the five open commissioner posts.  Incumbent candidates are: Ron Breslawski, Jim Guion, Daryl Prince and Glen Unterborn. Mike Gross, Scott Witte, Chris Brown and John “Jack” Prince are also running.

Candidate Mike Gross reminds voters that they only vote for one commissioner, if they select more than one name, their ballot is invalid.

According to state law, the candidate with the highest number of votes receives a five-year term, the candidate with the second highest number of votes receives a four-year term and so on.

Voting in the Hamlin Morton Walker Fire District will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 10 at the LR Merritt Hall, 1503 Lake Road in Hamlin.

In the Hilton Parma Fire District, two candidates are running for one, five-year commissioner term. Incumbent Don Harter and Steve Speer are both seeking election to the post. Voting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Parma Fire Station, 120 Old Hojack Lane in Hilton.

In the Spencerport Fire District, candidates are running for two commissioner positions. One commissioner term is a five year term and the other a three year term. Dave Spencer is seeking re-election to the five year seat. Millard David Fairley is challenging for that seat. Tod Ritzenthaler and David Resch are seeking to fill the three year post formerly held by Dave Pagani who has moved out of the district.

Voting for the Spencerport Fire District election will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. at Spencerport Fire Station #1, 175 Lyell Avenue in the village.

In the North Greece Fire District, three candidates are running for one, five-year commissioner term. Candidates are incumbent Frank Lombardo, Linda Andreano and Joseph Camiolo. Voting will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. at the North Greece FD Station Headquarters, 1766 Latta Rd.

In the Brockport Fire District, incumbent Debra Finkle-Bax is running unopposed for a five year term. Voting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brockport Exempts Club, 248 West Avenue, Brockport.
