New Landmark House in Chili
The Chili Historic Preservation Board has added another home to the town’s Landmark District.
Frank and Kathy Dougherty, owners of the historic home at 429 Fisher Road, were honored at a recent Chili Town Board meeting. Members of the Preservation Board presented their investigation with slides, annotation of the pictures, and a summary of the project. Following the town council’s resolution of acceptance, a bronze plaque was given to the Doughertys.
The Fisher-Dougherty house was erected in 1836 and for over a century was owned by generations of the Fisher family. The Doughertys bought the Colonial style house in 2001. The structure has 9 rooms built on a rubble stone basement. The floors have wide planking of hemlock and pine. The staircase, fireplace, doors, latches, and most of the rest of the interior represented a comfortable elegance of the mid 1800s country home.
This latest entry into landmark status in Chili follows 15 others. The seven member Chili Historic Preservation Board actively searches for those places of historic value. Anyone who wishes to apply or to simply inquire about the process may call 594-2944.
