Brockport Service Clubs hold annual “Bell Ringing” Dinner
The annual March appreciation banquet of Brockport Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary is where the clubs find out who is the victor in the annual contest to raise money during the Salvation Army’s Holiday fundraiser. This year the Brockport Lions won with an astounding $2,500 – plus effort. In total, over $15,000 was raised with about half of that due to the service clubs’ bell ringing efforts on the four Saturdays prior to Christmas at Mahan’s Liquor Store and the Brockport Walmart.
Thanks to the holiday fundraiser, in the past five months alone, the Salvation Army provided aid to 500 people from the Brockport area including distribution of 100 food vouchers and winter coats for 13 children. Ninety per cent of the monies collected locally are available for help within the community. Most of the rest goes for larger project support like shelters. Salvation Army Major Douglas Hart commended local club efforts and the community’s generosity, presenting certificates of achievement to club representatives. Major Hart lived for nine years in the Kendall area graduating from Kendall CSD.
