According to local television stations, 100 dollar counterfeit bills have passed through Rochester and Greece with the serial number LI65350494A.
The Secret Service is working with police agencies to investigate the counterfeit money circulating within the area.
Banks and businesses are asked to be on the lookout. Some ways to detect potentially counterfeit money include:
•Compare the questionable item to a genuine bill (texture/feel/size)
•Look for the security strip and thread
•Look for the Watermark
•Look for the Red/Blue Fibers
•Color Shifting Ink
•Check with a Counterfeit Pen
If anyone receives counterfeit currency, get a description of the person who passed it and call police.
According to Chief Mears, Ogden Police, none have been reported in Spencerport so far, but be on the lookout.
