Brockport’s annual tree planting celebrates Arbor Day
The Village of Brockport’s 10th annual Arbor Day planting was held May 6 on the South Avenue Extension, marking the second year of a three-year project to plant a total of 60 Winter King Hawthorns along the stretch from the intersection of Brook Terrace to Owens Road. The annual Arbor Day planting is a collaborative effort of the village and college.
Brockport’s DPW crew and the college’s facilities crew worked in tandem to deliver trees, provide shovels, demonstrate tree planting and clean up after the volunteer tree planters. Brockport poet Bill Heyen recited his “Emancipation Proclamation,” the Tree Board’s favorite tree poem, and all enjoyed the munchkins generously provided by Dunkin’ Donuts.
