Chili Art Group celebrates 55 years

The Chili Art Group recently held their 2016 Art Show and Sale, celebrating their 55th anniversary. The group is very grateful to the Town of Chili for having sponsored them throughout their entirety. In appreciation, the group presented a mural with six paintings of Chili’s past historic structures to the Chili Historical Society, which is on display at Streeters Inn on Union Street.

The Chili Art Group’s mural consisted of paintings by: Ed Adams, Blacksmith Shop – Buffalo Road, North Chili; Loretta Langan, The Chili Mills; Judy Wood, Cobblestone School House; Tony Bailey, Greek Revival House – 3429 Chili Avenue; Loretta Langan, Cobblestone House – 3774 Chili Avenue; and Matt Sinacola, Modern Colonial – 404 Scottsville-Chili Road.

Joan B.C. Manley also presented a painting of North Chili Stagecoach Inn at the corner of Union Street and Buffalo Road.
The club was honored to have Sue Leo, Professor of Graphic Design at Roberts Wesleyan College as the judge of the show. The show included 29 artists and 101 pieces of art. Each artist displayed exceptional and unique artistic abilities.

Town Historian Peter Widener presented the Historic Merit Ribbons to several artists, including: Ed Adams for his painting of The Bergen Grain Mill; Mary Eggleston for her painting The Old Farm; and Judy Wood for her painting of the Chili Cobblestone School House.

Additionally, the Town Supervisor picked his favorite painting as tradition to the club each year. Supervisor David Dunning presented Diane MacCowan the Supervisor’s Choice Award for her painting “A Place for You.”

C.A.G. President Deborah Bonnewell and the Show Chairman Joan B.C. Manley presented the Best of Show Award to Matt Sinacola for his painting “What’s Left of #43.” Margot Hughes received the award for the Most Accomplished Artist with her picture “Magnolias.”

Ten Jurors awards and ten Honorable Mention awards were also given out. Judy Wood received the Public Choice Award for her “Cobblestone School House.” The Members Choice Award was tied: Beth Wickham for “WHOOS” and Deborah Bonnewell for “Fruits and Flowers.”

A special thank you to Lewis Gracey for the donation of his wife Jane’s paintings for the raffle in her honor. She was a gifted artist in many mediums.

Two pictures of Jane’s were raffled. The money will go towards guest artists who speak at the meetings and for art school students. The club thanks all of the people who attended the show and helped to make it a success.

The Chili Art Group meets from September to April each year on the second and fourth Thursdays each month at the Chili Senior Center on Chili Avenue. For more information about the group, contact Joan Manley at 594-1927.
