2016 Monroe County Fair is just around the corner
This year’s Monroe County Fair is set for August 4 through 7 at Northampton Park in Ogden.
“There’s something for everyone to enjoy at the 2016 Monroe County Fair,” says Sarah Colby, a member of the Fair Association Board. “A big change for this year is that we are dropping the admission price to $5 for adults (kids 12 and under are free), and Thursday will be free admission all day,” she says.
The fair will also be co-hosting the Country Showdown with Big Dog Radio 103.5 WUUF. “The Country Showdown is the largest and longest running national country music talent search,” Colby explains. “Anyone can enter to sing their way to becoming this year’s ‘Best New Act in Country Music’.”
The Showdown will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 and Colby says information about entering can be found online at www.countryshowdown.com/.
Musical entertainment is planned for the fair and this year’s lineup includes Misfit Karma, Kid Kurry, Embers into Flame, and international guitarist and storyteller Richard Gilewitz. “Gilewitz will also be offering two free guitar and ukelele workshops at the fair on Friday afternoon,” Colby says, “so bring your instrument and join us for lessons in acoustic finger-picking.”
The fair also features 4-H and open shows for hobbies, crafts, foods, flowers, vegetables, and animal and horse shows.
“We’ve got shows for photography, baking, horse riding, fabric art, raising chickens, woodworking, gardening and many others,” Colby explains. “If you enjoy any of these, you can find information on entering online at www.mcfair.com/2016-monroe-county-fair-showbook/.” Entry forms are due by Wednesday, July 27. A late entry fee of $10 per exhibitor will be charged after that date.
Once again, the Garden Tractor pull will take place on Sunday, “And we’ll be having local food favorites again this year, including LuGia’s ice cream, Salvatore’s Pizza, Rohrbach beers and more,” Colby says. “We’ll have kiddie rides and pony rides, too.”
