Village of Brockport announces Tax Relief Task Force

The Brockport Village Board established a Tax Relief Task Force at their regular meeting on Monday, July 18.

The Task Force will recommend to the Village Board actionable ideas that will result in lowering the tax rate village owners pay to sustain the village. The task force itself has no authority to implement change; its function is strictly advisory to the Village Board. The Task Force is expected to deliver a report of their findings by May 2017 at the latest.

The Tax Relief Task Force will consist of nine people. Two will be Village Board members; seven other members will be from Brockport businesses, Brockport homeowners and a representative from the Town of Sweden Board. All members will be Village residents.

Annette Crane and John LaPierre, Village Trustees, will co-chair the Task Force.  Subject matter experts will be invited to discuss specific topics.  Any Village resident wishing to make suggestions or comments to the Task Force will be encouraged to do so.

The Task Force will meet at least monthly; the meetings will be public; minutes will be published on the Village website. The mayor will appointed all members.  Meetings are expected to start after Labor Day.

Any Village resident wishing to join this Task Force can apply by submitting the Position Interest Form found at the Village website (www.brockportny.org/departments-services/forms-and-applications/position-interest-form/view/form) also available at the Village Offices.
