Hilton-Parma to host Town Hall on the Prevention of Underage Drinking
HPDICE, the Hilton Parma Drug Intervention & Community Education Coalition, will host a Town Hall on the Prevention of Underage Drinking on Wednesday, November 2. The event titled, Our Community. Our Kids’ Health. Our Future, is a first for the community and will take place at the Merton Williams Middle School in Hilton from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Panelists from The Poison Control Center, Monroe County Sheriff Office – Zone C, Brockport College, State Farm, the Monroe County Stop DWI Program and others have partnered with HPDICE to bring this event to the community. Opening remarks will be provided by Casey Kosiorek, Hilton District Superintendent.
“The planning committee has been at work since February organizing this event. We look forward to sharing the top five common myths about allowing underage drinking, ways to reduce risk to our youth and parenting tips to address underage drinking”, said Laurie Polatas, HPDICE Founder. “It’s important for communities to talk about these topics and to raise awareness in order to promote a healthier and safer community.”
The evening includes time for audience feedback and brainstorming and will host tables where several practitioners and businesses will provide information and services promoting the 8 Dimensions of Wellness such as emotional well-being, financial health and healthy lifestyles.
The community coalition founded in 2014 is a 501c3 not for profit and is the only one of its kind in Western Monroe County.
This event was made possible through sponsorships from SAMHSA – Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Hilton Health Care, Hilton Family Dentistry, Hilton Baptist Church, Crosspoint Free Methodist Church, Villageradio.net, Hovey Liquor Store and NCADD-RA’s Finger Lakes Prevention Resource Center.
