Brockport Symphony Orchestra presents “From Broadway to Hollywood … and back!”
The Brockport Symphony Orchestra will present, “From Broadway to Hollywood … and Back!” on Sunday, October 21 at 3 p.m. in the historic sanctuary at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 14 State Street, Brockport. Directed by Jonathan Allentoff, this concert featuring NPR/WXXI Classical 91.5 Host Michael Lasser will showcase the talents of nationally-acclaimed vocalist Mary Wojciechowski and noted Rochester clarinet soloist Rachel Roessel.
The program, created in collaboration with Lasser, includes instrumental and vocal selections from The Music Man, The Wizard of Oz, Carousel, Chicago, Girl Crazy, Good News, Hallelujah, Baby!, and Carnival in new arrangements by Allentoff inspired by the original scores. Lasser, host of the nationally-syndicated public radio show, “Fascinatin’ Rhythm,” will narrate the concert and share his unique musical insights as a Peabody award-winning broadcaster, author, and professor.
Admission and parking are free, and canned items for the Brockport Food Shelf and donations for the Food Shelf, St. Luke’s, and the orchestra will be gratefully accepted at the door. There will also be a complimentary dessert reception in Parish Hall following the performance.
The orchestra will be presenting a second performance of this program in Rochester on Sunday, November 4, at 3 p.m. at the Temple Beth El Auditorium, 139 South Winton Road.
