Churchville celebrates holiday tree lighting
Churchville celebrated the beginning of the holiday season with their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony held at the Village Office building. The bell choir from the Union Congregational Church in Churchville set a holiday mood with their beautiful music. Children listened intently as Lynn Brown, director of the Newman Riga Library, read aloud Christmas stories. Deputy Mayor John Hartman drew names from a box to select the two children who would help Mayor Nancy Steedman light the holiday trees. With joyous carols sung by the Churchville-Chili Central School students in grades 5/6 and 7/8, Sierra Willard and Cole DelMedico lit the trees. One tree with multi-colored lights was lit for the holiday season. The second tree decorated in red, white and blue lights was lit in the gazebo for everyone who has served or is serving our country. With sirens blaring, the Churchville fire truck arrived with Santa. Children and adults followed Santa into the board room for cookies and hot cocoa served by the Churchville Lions. It was a wonderful way for the community to come together to start the holidays.
