Clarkson update on water districts

The Town of Clarkson is currently working on two separate water districts for residents.

Roosevelt Highway Water District

This is a joint water district with the Towns of Clarkson and Hamlin, and is proceeding as planned. Revised plans for this project are now complete and are under the cost threshold set by the State Comptroller’s Office. The Town engineer MRB Group, is addressing comments from the Monroe County Water Authority. In addition, MRB will be submitting all information needed for the required permits to the NYS Department of Transportation, Monroe County Department of Health and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The next step will be to secure easements where needed. The Town Board will review the data and vote to approve the final engineer’s estimate. Most of these steps are also being completed and in coordination with the Town of Hamlin. Once approved, a final petition will be provided for all residents to sign. Depending on how long each step of the process takes, work should begin this summer.

Town-Wide Water District

This district is being established for all other residents in the Town of Clarkson without water – excluding the Roosevelt Highway District. (A map is available at the town hall that shows these areas.) Residents within those locations completed Income Surveys and the town was provided with the results in January at a meeting of the town supervisor, attorney, engineer and the consultant who administered the survey. It was determined that the average income for those properties does fit the parameters set by the Rural Development grants. Without grant assistance the waterlines would be too expensive for residents living in those areas. The downside is that the grant cycle is lengthy. These waterlines are not contiguous so installation would also need to occur separately. The town is committed to seeking these grants and will continue to push forward on this project. This is a cumbersome and lengthy process that could take one to two years. The town will keep residents informed as new information is available.
