Town of Bergen collects water petition signatures

The Town of Bergen has been collecting water petition signatures since the end of May. The property owner signatures are needed in order to form a water district that will bring public water to all un-watered parts of town.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Office has offered the Town of Bergen an attractive financing package consisting of a grant and a low interest loan to fund the water expansion project. The federal assistance brings the proposed district to a level of affordability that otherwise could not be achieved. If the town does not accept the funding package, it is unlikely that public water could be expanded in Bergen in the foreseeable future.

As the Bergen Town Board is interested in making sure that all property owners have had time to study the water district plan and make an informed decision they are continuing to collect petitions.

The town has held signing events and sent petition captains door-to-door. For residents who have not been reached by these efforts or have just not responded to the opportunities, please call the Bergen Town Hall at 494-1121 to learn more or to arrange a time to sign a petition.
