Parma Public Library to receive $50,000 in state aid
The Parma Public Library has been awarded $50,000 in state aid for library construction and improvements. The money was granted to the Parma Public Library for renovations to the roof of the building located at 7 West Avenue in Hilton. The funds are part of a $34 million capital fund set aside for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects throughout the state secured in the 2018-19 State Budget.
According to the New York State Department of Education, public libraries throughout New York State are in dire need of repair and improvement. Securing and increasing funding for library improvements throughout the state has remained a priority for Assemblyman Peter Lawrence (R,C,I-Greece) and the Assembly Minority Conference over the last few years.
“Libraries are crucial hubs of learning for our communities,” said Lawrence. “It’s paramount we continue to provide them with the necessary funding and resources to keep their doors open. Libraries provide members of the community access to books, computers and the internet, resources that not everyone has access to at home. I am very happy to see the Parma Public Library awarded this funding. I hope this will help them make the necessary improvements so they can keep their doors open for generations to come.”
