Riga GOP selects candidates
The Riga Republican Committee has endorsed its slate of candidates to run in this November’s election. The incumbents are: Councilperson Cindy Jessop, Town Justice Scott Okolowicz, and Town Supervisor Brad O’Brocta. All have received endorsements from the committee to continue in their current positions. Citing elimination of town debt, low taxes, improved parks and recreation facilities for town residents, and efforts to maintain Riga’s rural character as accomplishments, they are anxious to continue working for the residents of Riga.
Also receiving the committee’s endorsement was newly appointed Town Councilperson Derek Harnsberger. Harnsberger was appointed to the Riga Town Board in July to fill the open seat created by the vacancy of Councilperson Dave George, who is not seeking re-election.
Derek Harnsberger has previously served as a member of the Riga Planning Board. He is currently serving as a prosecutor for Monroe County. In seeking this endorsement Harnsberger stated, “I am committed to keeping money in the pockets of Riga’s hard-working citizens and out of the hands of big government, by responsible spending and sustaining Riga’s zero town tax.”
Committee Chairperson Kim Okolowicz said, “We are proud to have such a strong group of candidates willing to serve the town of Riga. They have all done an excellent job in the past and will no doubt continue steering Riga in the right direction.”
