Riga Democrats announce candidates
The Riga Democratic Committee has announced their candidates for office in the Town of Riga. These are the candidates who will be on the November election ballot on the Democratic line.
For Riga Town Supervisor they have selected Paula Randall, who has previously run for County Legislature. Randall has been a Riga resident for over 25 years and has a master’s degree in Public Administration. She has 25 years experience in management, and has worked with government and nonprofits, grants, and community projects.
For Riga Town Councilman they have selected Stan Main who ran two years ago for this same position. Main is a 25-year resident of Monroe County and has a 45-year radio/media career. They believe he will be a long-term planner for Riga’s future.
Lastly they have chosen Lily Maira for Town Council. Maira is currently busy raising three young children with her husband, Mark. She graduated from Churchville-Chili and has chosen to live in the same community. She was selected to bring a fresh, younger perspective to the Town Board.
Some opportunities the Democratic Committee sees for Riga include: a continued push to create a Community Center; exploring the possibility of recycle bins with covers to reduce trash along the roads; studying the possibility for a highway overpass, probably along North Sanford Road, to allow for emergency traffic to flow while trains are going through the village; putting a fracking ban in place within the town to prevent fracking companies from targeting the Utica shale which is under Riga; and increasing efforts to promote business opportunities in Churchville. They stated that their goal is to make Riga a better place to live and continue its rural atmosphere.
