Nicholas J. Reid Memorial Blood Drive scheduled for September 13

The Nicholas J. Reid Memorial Blood Drive will be held at the Sweden Clarkson Community Center, 4927 Lake Road, on Friday, September 13, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Staff Sergeant Reid was a Town of Sweden native who died on December 13, 2012 following injuries suffered in an IED explosion in Afghanistan. He was on his second deployment to Afghanistan as a member of the 53rd Ordnance Company of the 3rd Ordnance Battalion based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State.

Staff Sgt. Reid, who was 26 years of age at the time of his death, was a 2004 graduate of Brockport High School and the son of Ken and Dorothy Reid. He joined the US Army in 2006 as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. Staff Sgt. Reid was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He is interred at Lakeview Cemetery, Town of Sweden.
