Sweden adopts preliminary budget; sets public hearing

The Town of Sweden adopted its 2020 Preliminary Budget on October 8 and scheduled the budget public hearing for Tuesday, October 22, at 7 p.m. The $5.9 million spending plan results in a tax rate of $4.63 per thousand of assessed valuation in the Town outside the Village of Brockport and $2.60 per thousand of assessed valuation in the Village of Brockport.

The budget includes funding for sidewalks on Holley Street and part of Owens Road; a new dog control truck; a scheduled deposit into the Seymour Library reserve fund; new debt service for road and parking lot improvements; a growing cost for spring and fall pick-ups; and increased health insurance costs.

Special district levies increased by just over $1,000 taken as a whole. Individually some districts’ levies declined, others rose. The most significant change in special district budgets is in the Fourth Section Sewer District. The cost per parcel will drop from $374 in 2019 to $162 in 2020, due to the Stonebriar subdivision.

The preliminary budget is online at www.townofsweden.org and is available at the Town Hall. Questions regarding the budget may be directed to the supervisor’s office at 637-7588.
