Brockport rotary celebrates 50th year

District 7120 Governor Elect Linda W. Kohl of the Penfield Rotary Club recently presented a certificate honoring the Brockport Rotary Club in its 50th year. Current president Steve Drexler accepted the certificate on behalf of the club. Most members and their spouses were in attendance. The club’s display of memorabilia is located in the Seymour Library’s Local History Room and is open to the public through the end of November. A large collection of photos and articles can be seen in slide show format thanks to past president Brad Mitchell.

Kohl commended the club for still having their original charter signed in June of 1969 (seen on the wall in back of the two leaders) and for being one of a limited number of clubs sponsoring a Rotaract Club (at the College at Brockport.) Rotaract, Rotary International’s club for college age/young adults, was lauded generally as being the future of Rotary.

Rotarians meet most Thursdays, 6:15 p.m., at the Brockport Bill Gray’s Restaurant. The public and those interested in possible membership are welcome.
