MONROE COUNTY
•Numbers look to be leveling off. Don’t want to “spike the football yet” but the numbers aren’t as concerning as in other areas. Social Distancing works and we are seeing the fruits of that. If we slip, we won’t see that for a week or two so we need to continue an aggressive effort for Social Distancing.
•Hospitalized 2.4% Asian 27.9% Black 18.6% Hispanic
NEW YORK STATE
•NY Data: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/views/NYS-COVID19-Tracker/NYSDOHCOVID-19Tracker-Map?%3Aembed=yes&%3Atoolbar=no&%3Atabs=n
•Governor orders flags at half mass for COVID victims.
•What we have done and are doing is working.
•NY PAUSE + Social Distancing HAS flattened the curve so far.
•The curve is a function of what we are doing right now and we need to continue to flatten it.
•If new hospitalization rate keeps decreasing, the system will stabilize, need minimized for relief.
•The caution is IF we continue doing what we are doing with social distancing. The curve is flattening because of our actions.
•The bad news: 779 People Died in the last 24 hours. The number of deaths may continue to rise as those hospitalized for the longest periods pass.
•Perspective, NYS lost 2,753 people at the World Trade Center on 9/11, 6,268 lives have been lost from COVID.
•When are we going back? It’s not about going back, its about going forward. If we are smart we will go to a new normal.
•Much to learn: Both positive and Negative
Global Pandemics – the world is smaller than ever before.
Public Health Systems – capacity preparedness.
Using Technology – health system, economy, court system.
Testing capacity – still to be developed.
•Mercury Medical donated 2400 brand new BiPAP machines.
•Thank You to direct care workers and other essential State worker and first responders.
•We are flattening the curve, but need to double down now.
•Starting a Social Media campaign “Who are you staying home for?”
•Good news, but still have more to do. If we change our behavior, we will change the curve not in our favor.
•Distributed more than 1,000,000 gallons of hand sanitizer for first responders and government facilities.
Unemployment
•NYS will make an additional $600 payment now to all who filed for unemployment – NYS expect to be reimbursed by the Federal government.
•We are also extending the period covered by unemployment benefits for another thirteen weeks for a total of 39 weeks.
Voting
•Civic duty to vote shouldn’t be opposed to public health.
•By Executive Order, all New Yorkers can vote absentee on June 23rd primaries by way of the “sick” statute including the threat of sick by COVID-19.
