New York is flattening the curve, need to stay the course.

What You Need to Know

  • Governor Cuomo directed schools and nonessential businesses to stay closed for an additional two weeks through April 29th.
  • Regional mass testing partnership between New York, Connecticut and New Jersey is forming as a critical piece to reopening the economy.
  • $200 million will go towards an Emergency Food Assistance program for low-income families enrolled in SNAP.
  • Governor Cuomo is working towards a COVID-19 Heroes Compensation Fund for essential workers and their families.
  • Video of ‘New York Tough’ was released showing how New Yorkers are saving lives by spending their time at home.
  • New COVID-19 testing facilities are opening downstate, primarily in minority communities. Find testing site locations and hours or operation.
  • SUNY Albany President Havidan Rodriguez is working with State Department of Health and Northwell Health to conduct more COVID-19 data research and increase testing in minority communities.
  • $600 in additional weekly unemployment benefits will be made available to all New Yorkers; and the period covered by unemployment benefits is being extended for another 13 weeks, for total of 39 weeks.
  • New Yorkers who have recovered from COVID-19 are encouraged to donate blood. Here’s information on how to donate.
  • NYS is increasing the maximum fine for violations of the state’s social distancing protocol from $500 to $1,000 to help address the lack of adherence to social distancing protocols.
  • New Yorkers without health insurance can apply through NY State of Health through May 15, 2020; must apply within 60 days of losing coverage.
  • New Yorkers can call the COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline at 1-844-863-9314 for mental health counseling.
  • Testing is free for all eligible New Yorkers as ordered by a health care provider.
  • Your local health department is your community contact for COVID-19 concerns.

MONROE COUNTY UPDATE April 9

Chief Tantello in charge of this task force:

•Working with LEO’s to help enforce social distancing and encouraging people not to gather.

•Using literature to help education when dealing with public areas.

•Collecting data on hotspots around where people are gathering, NOT personal information.

•Each Law Enforcement Agency will be provided with the same talking point cards.

•Can call 911 when rules not followed.

Non-essential business operations being investigated currently. First instance is warning and educating and then referred to Code Enforcement for additional offenses.

Parks staff gearing up to do more aggressive surveillance for social distancing.

Hospital system has set up a respiratory clinic.

New York State Update

State wide numbers not indicative as to where each community is on the curve. Just because New York City plateaued doesn’t mean the Finger Lakes or other areas has.

Deaths are a lagging indicators.

New York Loves Campaign – Effort to coordinate all non-profits, charities etc. for donations within the state.

Request to those who have recovered to contact the state and donate blood. This could help with the development of a treatment for the virus.

Executive Order to bring additional funeral directors to New York to help with the deaths.

Unemployment:

1000 people helping to process claims.

800,000 people have claimed and 600,000 have been processed.

ESD Guidance does not apply to local government districts including schools.

Essential Heath care operations – Emergency Chiro, PT and OT prescribed by medical professional.

Essential Manufacturing – Manufacturing of automobiles or parts.

Essential Retail – Tele communications to service existing accounts, and deliveries at non-essential businesses so long as there is only one employee there to receive the order.

Essential Services – landscaping, pest control, construction.

Recreation – Parks and open spaces except playgrounds.

Golf Courses are Non-Essential.

Boat launches and Marinas are non-essential.

Professional Services – Lawyers so long as it is remotely, Real Estate.

At the beginning, the Federal government was projecting 1.2-2.4 million deaths on the high end and 100,000 to 250,000 deaths on the lower end.

Health care system has done a phenomenal job.

Currently at 90,000 capacity beds and could scramble to convert college dorms.

Experts also said we could save lives if society complied with social distancing and close-down policies. That remains the big IF. We are flattening the curve SO FAR.

We can’t handle the higher end of any model, we have to continue to flatten the curve because we can’t handle anything else.

We are flattening the curve by our efforts and actions. We are saving lives because of it.
